Stranger in a Strange Land by
Robert A. Heinlein
My rating:
3 of 5 stars
So promising, so, so promising. But what a disappointment nonetheless.
But first a disclaimer: Even though I ended the book disappointed, I'd recommend a one-time read.
But don't read it as science-fiction. It just barely qualifies. Put it this way, if the Man from Mars had been a Man from Marianas Trench, the book wouldn't have been affected at all!
The first half of the book is cracking and I was sure this was going to end up 4-stars or higher. But the second half of the book just unraveled. Devolved into religion and free love and whatnot. Not that I have a problem with it, but there was just such a world of difference between the two halves of the book.
Of course, it gave me a cracker of a line that had me actually laughing out loud: "Women should be obscene and not heard." Call me sexist, fine, I found it funny!
